About Cool Build

After 12 years working in his parents building business.. Matt had the urge to explore the country. A move in 1996 brought Matt from the brick veneer of the Adelaide S.A. Suburbs to the challenging conditions of Broome W.A. With it's Cyclonic rated, tropical, white custom orb designs.

Matt then spent a year in Perth W.A. Working on heritage buildings, in and around the Northbridge and Subiaco areas with his fathers cousin. Here earthy limestone accentuates the uniformity of red brick and ornate federation fascades.

In 1999 Matt moved to Noosa Heads on the Queensland Sunshine Coast. The creative use of building materials was a real eye opener. During this time Matt was lucky enough to work on homes featured on TV shows like “Our House” and others.

Matt purchased his first house in this time and renovated and extended it over a 5 year period. It's value grew by nearly 4 times and earned the praise of the builder he was working for and others.

In 2003 Matt moved to Cairns and worked for one of Cairns most awarded builders. The homes were predominantly of rendered masonry block construction.

Being a carpenter by trade since 1984, Matt decided to go back to the lighter weight tropical buildings, being constructed by an innovative architect. These were being build around the Cairns Northern Beaches. Here he expanded his knowledge about the importance of natural airflow and cooling in tropical buildings.

In 2009 an opportunity to remodel an historic masonic lodge in Eumundi, on the Sunshine Coast presented it's self. Matt dragged his family back down South, to again live in a dusty building site. This time renovating was juggled with work in outback indigenous communities in the Northern Territory.

Eventually Matt made his way back to Cairns in 2014. Since attaining his builders licence in 2009 he has been offering his extensive knowledge of 34 years in the building industry. He is committed to achieve what ever the home owner desires, with a bit of practical advise thrown in.
